Winter School
The first edition of Winter School on “Comparative Criminal Justice” is scheduled to be held from 21-27 October, 2024 and it shall be hosted by the School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR Campus, in collaboration with Miami University, Ohio, United States. The sessions will be conducted by professors from the Department of Justice and Community Studies, Miami University. This seven-day programme will focus on cutting-edge issues in the field of criminal law, particularly on comparative criminal justice in light of the new criminal laws introduced in India. The initiative aims to create a multi-stakeholder environment where scholars, practitioners, students, and experts in law, criminology, and criminal law (both substantive and procedural) can learn and exchange their views and opinions. Each day will feature sessions lasting three hours, with each session covering different topics within the criminal justice system and criminal law policy.

John P. Forren, Ph.D
Interim Chair of the Department of Justice & Community StudiesJohn P. Forren, Ph.D., is the Interim Chair of the Department of Justice & Community Studies, an Associate Professor in the Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences, and the Executive Director of the Menard Family Center for Democracy at Miami University in Ohio, USA. With over 20 years of experience, Prof. Forren earned his Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University and his master's degree from The University of Chicago. He is also a guest faculty member at various universities and serves as a resource person for numerous international conferences and seminars. Additionally, he is an accomplished writer on contemporary issues.
Daniel E. Hall, J.D., Ed.D
Professor, Departments of Political Science and Justice & Community Studies; Miami University - Ohio, USAProf. (Dr.) Hall is a Visiting Professor of Law at Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China, with numerous publications, including the prominent works “Caught in the Act: Fundamentals of Criminal Law” published by Sage Publishing, and “Criminal Law and Procedure” 8th Edition, published by Cengage Publishing. He completed his studies at the University of Central Florida and Washburn University, Topeka, before joining Miami University. Prior to his academic career, he served as an Assistant Attorney General.
Jae-Seung Lee, Ph.D
Assistant Professor, Department of Justice & Community Studies, Miami University - Ohio, USADr. Lee's teaching and research focus on community policing and police strategies, crime prevention, gun violence, and terrorism. He has managed multiple research projects funded by grants, and his research has been published in prestigious academic journals in the criminal justice field, including Police Quarterly, Policing: An International Journal, and Social Science Quarterly. Dr. Lee holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice and has taught a variety of courses such as Introduction to Criminal Justice, Police Management, Community Policing, Juvenile Justice, Criminal Court, Correctional System and Practices, Criminological Theories, and Research Methodology. He completed his studies at the University of Houston and Northern Kentucky University.

● Case study and discussion: The Scopes Monkey Trial
● Case study and discussion: The Nuremberg War Crimes Trials Discussion: What is/are the legitimate purpose(s) of criminal trials in a constitutional democracy?

Following the Winter School sessions, the organizers plan to compile an edited volume. Interested participants will have the opportunity to contribute to this publication. Selected papers on comparative criminal justice will be published in an edited volume with an ISBN, through an international publishing house, most likely indexed on SCOPUS
